Peltier Technology: Energy Savings and Temperature Accuracy in Climatic Chambers
[/vc_column_text][vc_separator color=”sandy_brown” border_width=”3″ el_width=”10″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1564073259210{margin-top: 25px !important;margin-bottom: 25px !important;}”][vc_column width=”3/4″][vc_column_text]Especially precise, environmentally friendly and economical, the heating and cooling system of Peltier technology is used in the IPP Refrigerated Incubator, the HPP Climate Chamber and the IPS Storage Chamber. Heating and cooling are carried out in a single system: if electrical voltage is placed on a Peltier element, one side is cooled and the opposite side is heated simultaneously. By simply reversing the polarity of the supply voltage, the hot and cold sides of the Peltier element can be swapped. Peltier technology works particularly economically, especially at temperatures close to room temperature, as energy is only used if heating or cooling is required, unlike compressor technology. Very precise adjustments can be made to the heating or cooling functions.
The Peltier Technology
Peltier elements are probably the most well-known industrial application of the Peltier effect. These are connected in series. Contamination with foreign atoms causes a difference in the conductivity of the two materials. If a voltage is applied to the terminals in semiconductors, some of the energy is converted into heat. One side of the Peltier element becomes cold, as energy is extracted from it through an electric current, while the other side releases the heat extracted from the cold side into the environment. Peltier elements basically function as an electronic heat pump, with which heat energy is transported from the cold side to the hot side. Depending on the direction of the current flow, they can be used for cooling or heating. With Peltier you will have maximum energy efficiency, precision and versatility.

With equipment using Peltier technology, compared to conventional laboratory equipment with cooling functions based on compressor technology, the thermal energy of the environment is converted into heating energy, compensating for up to one-third of the required thermal energy. The main advantage of Peltier technology is that only the energy that is actually needed to maintain the constant temperature is used – so for working temperatures close to room temperature, the energy requirements are very low. The degree of effectiveness of appliances with compressors drops dramatically from this point, while Peltier technology can make the most of its superiority in energy efficiency, with a potential for savings of up to 90%. [/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”1156″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]As already mentioned, the Peltier elements work like a heat pump. During the heating operation, thermal energy is extracted from the ambient air and fed to the interior. There is no outside air exchange and the inside is not dehumidified. Physically induced, the dripping of water during the cooling process does not occur inside the chamber, but outside the workspace. In addition, the integrated fans ensure fast energy transport and optimal temperature distribution. Peltier devices are an alternative solution, considering the rising energy costs and environmental protection efforts regarding economic and ecological aspects.
Precision
The Peltier is wonderfully versatile and performs very sensitive temperature control. Extremely small control fluctuations ensure that tests and processes are repeatable and documentable under precisely defined conditions. In addition, the Peltier technology in MEMMERT devices heats and cools perfectly in one system, runs almost vibration-free and is extremely quiet. Particularly for applications such as the growth of protein crystals, breeding insects, zebrafish and mice, where noiseless and vibration-free compressor is required, Peltier technology is an invaluable advantage. Of course, employees also benefit from the tranquility and quiet that is pleasant inside the lab, regardless of the application, so that, without distractions, they can focus on what is essential: their work.
Versatility
Incubation, storage as well as climate control with Peltier Refrigerated Incubators and Climate Chambers. The universally applicable energy “economizers” are used in microbiology, cell culture, food analysis or in the electronics industry in the same way as for stability testing of food and pharmaceutical products as well as testing of building materials. Peltier systems are well designed, minimizing the occurrence of failure as much as possible. In addition, the devices have high durability and practically do not require maintenance.
