The foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMD) is an important pathogen, in terms of biosecurity, due to its infectious nature and wide range of host animals, such as cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. YF outbreaks can have a severe impact on livestock production, causing morbidity, mortality, reduced production yields, and trade embargoes. NB4 laboratories studying AF must have robust biodecontamination methods to prevent inadvertent release of the virus.
